Honeymoon - Week 2

This is at Chichen Itza in front of "El Castillo", the most well-known Mayan ruin. We spent all day exploring this large city that was once home to 50,000 Mayans. El Castillo is also famous for being aligned with the sun so twice a year (on the fall and spring equinoxes) the image of a snake crawling down the side of the pyramid appears. Pretty cool. You should definitely google that.

This is the observatory. Maybe the most impressive of all the ruins because so much of what the Mayans knew was based on their astronomical skills.

Just beaching it. Crystal clear waters and white sand. For a second we thought we were at Myrtle Beach...haha.

This is at the ruins of Coba. They were not as well-preserved. We are about to climb this huge pyramid - over 140 feet high! It is so steep that there is a rope to hold onto on the way down.

We love snorkeling! This was at Xel-Ha, an eco-park near Playa del Carmen. These were actually some of the smaller fish.

This is on the shore at the ruins of Tulum. This city was set on the coast and was smaller than the other two we visited. The Mayans lined this entire city up with the progression of the sun in the sky throughout the year. Amazing.

Honeymoon - Week 1

After the wedding, we went down to Mexico for a fabulous honeymoon. We spent our first week at El Dorado Royale - a resort on the Mayan Riviera. Our room was one of the top floor casitas in the picture. We loved it.

This is us on the beach...lounging. Not a bad way to spend a week in January!

This is our view from the "palapa" each day. The palapa was a king-size beach bed with a thatch roof. It is also a great location for an afternoon nap after a margarita!

First Post

We have decided to start a blog (seems like the cool thing to do these days) so you guys can see what the new Barriers are up to these days. We'll be posting updates and pictures from our wedding, honeymoon, and various spring trips before our residency lives begin. After that, no promises about how often we will be updating the page. Enjoy!
